House District 50 Race Heads To Runoff

Unofficial results show former Johns Creek council members Kelly Stewart and Brad Raffensperger are in 1st and 2nd place, respectively.

Unofficial results show two former Johns Creek City Council members are headed to a runoff in the race to succeed Lynne Riley as the next representative for Georgia’s House District 50.

Republican Kelly Stewart is currently leading the race with 44 percent, or 1,079 votes. Second-place candidate is fellow Republican Brad Raffensperger, who is currently polling at 42 percent, or 1,026 votes.

The three remaining candidates — Republican Royce M. Reinecke, Libertarian Christine Austin and Paul Troop (who did not list a party affiliation) — all trail in that order.

Reinecke has garnered 5 percent, or 123 votes, followed by Austin at 4.6 percent or, 113 votes, and Troop at 4.4 percent, or 108 votes.

Both Stewart and Raffensperger will once again go head-to-head in the runoff scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 3 in their hopes to succeed Riley, who was tapped by Gov. Nathan Deal to serve as the state’s revenue commissioner.
