Celebrating in the Streets

Fans swarmed the streets around Wrigley Field as they celebrated the Cubs' win and started thinking about Wednesday's Game 7.

The crowds became so large in front of the ballpark's marquee that Chicago police needed to divert motor traffic away from Clark and Addison streets, according to DNAinfo.com. Officers also shut down pedestrian traffic around the field, the website reported.

Before the game, police had no plans to close down streets in the Wrigleyville neighborhood like it had during Games 1 and 2, according to Fox 32. But the amount of people gathering after the victory changed that. The crowds started to dissipate around 11 p.m., the TV news station reported.

Cubs fans weren't just celebrating in Chicago, though. They also hung around in and outside Progressive Field to savor the team's impressive victory.

Note to Cubs Nation: Save some of the celebrating for Wednesday night.

Maddon Goes to Bullpen, Cubs Fans Go, 'What the … !?!'

Despite a five-run lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, manager Joe Maddon decided to bring in closer Aroldis Chapaman. The armchair managers throughout Cubs Nation, however, were not happy about the call to bullpen. And that was before Chapman came up limping after running to cover first base for the final out:

What do you think about Maddon's decision?

Jason Kipnis' Bat Stays Hot

Northbrook's own Jason Kipnis continues to give Cubs fans mixed feelings. On the one hand, everyone wants to see a local boy do well on the big stage. On the other hand, no one wants him to do that well. A solo home run in the fifth inning with Cleveland still down 7-2 seems like an OK compromise. Just barely.

Celebs Make It Out for Game 6

Game 6 in Cleveland wasn't quite the star-studded affair that Games 3 through 5 were in Chicago. But there were a few celebs on hand to root for the Indians, including Drew Carey, Al Roker and even LeBron James, who came over to Progressive Field after the Cavaliers game.

Of course, no 2016 World Series is complete without two of the Cubs' super fans. That's right, Bill Murray and Eddie Vedder also were in attendance.

Grand Slam Reaction

After Addison Russell hit his grand slam in the third inning to put the Cubs up 7-0, cheers erupted from fans around Chicago, including the United Center, where the Blackhawks were playing a game.

"Massive cheer moments ago at the United Center in Chicago, and it had nothing to do with the Blackhawks killing a power play," ESPN's Bob Holtzman reported. "The baseball game isn't on here = the power of the smart phone."

Online, the Cubs faithful broke out the GIFs to express their overwhelming joy at Russell's blast:

Indians Beat Before the 1st Pitch?

Cleveland manager Terry Francona might've outsmarted himself before Game 6 even started. Instead of starting Rajai Davis in center field, Francona went with Tyler Naquin for offensive reasons.

Unfortunately for the Indians, it was center field defense that proved to be the issue. Naquin was part of the botched fly ball play in the first inning that led to two runs by the Cubs.

Are These the Cubs or the Bears?

With the World Series extending into November, it shoudn't be surprising that the Cubs's hard-nosed play early in Game 6 looked as if they'd been picking up pointers from the Chicago Bears. Ben Zobrist's gutty slide into home to score the team's third run would've made the Monsters of the Midway proud.

Cubs Fans Dig the Long Ball

Kris Bryant put the Cubs on the board first with a two-out solo home run to left field in the top of the first inning.

And how did Cubs Nation respond?

He's back!

Cubs slugger Kyle Schwarber returns to the lineup as the designated hitter for Game 6. Because team doctors did not clear him to play in the field, Schwarber was limited to being used as a pinch hitter for Games 3 through 5 in Wrigley Field.

Even though Schwarber is back in the DH role, he won't be batting from same spot he did when he was in the lineup for Games 1 and 2. Manager Joe Maddon will have him hitting second Tuesday, a move up from being the fifth batter in his previous DH stints.

Maddon said he made the change in order to force Indians pitchers to throw to Schwarber and give him good pitches to hit.
