ACROSS ILLINOIS — The new coronavirus has sickened many and news surrounding the fast-spreading virus dominates the news these days. There is not a vaccine or cure for it, which adds to people's fears of contracting the virus.

Meanwhile, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker says cases and deaths are expected to peak soon in Illinois. Meaning, the news overall will likely get much worse before it gets better.

It doesn't sound great, but it's not all bad. In the face of tragedy, Chicago-area residents are stepping up to find great ways to help give back, come up with creative ways to connect in an age of social distancing and switching up the way they do business to provide some fun or needed supplies.

Illinois Golf Courses Prep To Reopen Friday: Many golf courses will reopen on Friday following Gov. J.B. Pritzker's modified stay-at-home order with new social distancing guidelines in place to limit the risk of coronavirus transmission. Burr Ridge Mayor Notes Trustee's Donations To Village: Politics took a back seat Monday afternoon when Trustee Zach Mottl and another businessman donated hand sanitizer and masks to the village. Mottl and Borris Powell, a clothing designer, were pictured in a presentation giving the sanitizer and masks to Police Chief John Madden. Online Mass For First Responders, Healthcare Workers: St. Mary's:

Staff with St. Mary Immaculate Parish recently told Patch that the church plans to livestream two Masses in honor of healthcare workers and first responders. These have been dubbed the "White Mass" and the "Blue Mass," respectively. "[These Masses] will show appreciation for these professions which is well needed," Parish Development Director Pam Angelus told Patch via email. Abbott Labs Ships Over 1M Rapid Coronavirus Tests To Every State: Abbott said the majority of these tests have been sent to the coronavirus outbreak hotspots and asks that customers prioritize frontline health care workers and first responders. Patch's Rebecca Bream has more on this here.


Coronavirus Shields Manufactured By Glenview Company: When Scott Gordon, owner of Pease Plastics in Glenview, found about Gov. J.B. Pritzker's stay-at-home order, no one came to work the following Monday. But after receiving a number of requests to design acrylic shields to fight the coronavirus, Gordon said he was able to get half of his crew members back to work within the first week of the emergency order.
