Protest Planned At Elmhurst School Board Meeting
Parents are pushing schools to reopen for in-person learning.
ELMHURST, IL — A protest is planned outside Tuesday night's Elmhurst school board meeting. Organizers are encouraging participants to avoid making the event political.
The board is starting with a closed session at 6 p.m. at Elmhurst School District 205's administration building, 162 S. York St. The demonstration is set to start an hour earlier.
The protest is being organized on the "Reopen D205" Facebook page, which has more than 850 members.

Earlier this afternoon, a meme posted on the page said, "This event is not political. DO NOT bring any signs that align with a party. We simply want our kids in school!"
In other places, such demonstrations have included signs supporting President Donald Trump and featuring his "Make America Great" slogan.

Last Wednesday, District 205 went entirely remote for two weeks in response to a surge in coronavirus cases in DuPage County. During the week of Oct. 5, the school district was the first unit district in DuPage County to open to all students for a hybrid model of in-person and remote learning.
In a survey over the summer, 85 percent of students' families said they wanted at least some in-person learning for their children.
