Latest Coronavirus Updates: 46 Confirmed Cases In Lemont Area

LEMONT, IL — The new coronavirus outbreak in Illinois and across the country is having vast impacts in Lemont, including the closure of several local businesses, the library, park district and schools.

As of Friday, the number of cases in Illinois is 39,658 and 1,795 people have died from the coronavirus. As of April 24, there are 10,570 confirmed cases in suburban Cook County, and 444 deaths.

IDPH is now also sharing the number of tests performed in each ZIP code. For ZIP code 60439, 274 tests have been performed with a total of 46 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, as of April 24.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner, there has also been 5 coronavirus related deaths in Lemont since March 16. The deaths included one woman in her 50s, one woman in her 60s, one woman in her 70s, one man in his 60s, and one man in his 70s.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker has also extended the stay-at-home order until May 30. Essential businesses will operate as they have been, but there are some changes with the order as of May 1, including: some state parks will reopen; greenhouses, plant nurseries and garden center can reopen as essential businesses; pet grooming services can reopen; and nonessential retail businesses can reopen to fulfill telephone or online orders via delivery or curbside pick-up.

Beginning on May 1, people will also be required to wear a face covering or a mask when in a public place where they can't maintain a 6-foot social distance. Face coverings will be required in public indoor spaces, such as stores. This new requirement applies to all people over the age of 2 who are able to medically tolerate a face covering or a mask.

Several libraries in the south suburbs have opened their book drops to collect donations of personal protective equipment for area hospitals and health care workers. MORE.

The village shared that the coronavirus pandemic will result in significant revenue losses in the general fund. Village administrator George Schafer said the village is projecting a $1.2 - $1.5 million revenue loss (sales tax, income tax and permit revenues) in the general fund. MORE.

SCHOOLS

Schools across Illinois, and in Lemont, will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. E-learning will still be taking place. MORE.

BUSINESSES

HOSPITALS

Two meal trains have been created for the Silver Cross Hospital ICU and Emergency Room staff. MORE.

The amount of coronavirus inpatients at Silver Cross Hospital has decreased overall by two over the past week. As of April 22, the hospital said it has 48 coronavirus positive inpatients and 19 persons under investigation, for a total of 67. MORE.

NURSING HOMES

Lemont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, otherwise known as Lemont Center, has five confirmed cases of coronavirus and one related death, the Illinois Department of Public Health reported Sunday. MORE.

A second associate has tested positive for the coronavirus at Franciscan Village, Franciscan Ministries said. In an update on its website, President and CEO Judy Amiano said the associate last worked in the facility on April 13. This is the fourth case at Franciscan Village; two residents and two workers have now tested positive. MORE.

CANCELLATIONS/CLOSURES

The Archdiocese of Chicago has suspended all normal religious services until further notice. The Islamic Foundation of the Southwest Suburbs has also suspended its Friday services. MORE.

The Lemont Public Library will be closed through the month of May due to the stay-at-home order. The library plans to reopen June 1. Checked-out materials will not be due until after the library reopens.

The Lemont Park District remains closed. In addition, playgrounds, play equipment, basketball courts, pickleball courts, tennis courts, the pavilions, and the skate park are also all closed. Open space and trails are open. It has also rescheduled the Quarryman Challenge to November. MORE.

The Little Mountain Community Theatre in Lemont has announced it is postponing its planned 2020 season to summer 2021 due to the coronavirus. The theatre was planning on holding a children's acting workshop with a production of "Wizard of Oz Jr." and a main stage production of "Children of Eden." MORE.
