Mashpee Police Investigating Pursuit Leading Up To Cotuit Crash
Police are examining whether the officers' actions in the events leading up to the fatal crash are consistent with the MPD's policy.

MASHPEE, MA – The Mashpee Police Department is investigating its officers' actions leading up to a crash in Cotuit that killed three people. Police have confirmed they were pursuing a sedan for multiple traffic violations shortly before it collided head-on with an SUV on Rt. 28 shortly after midnight Saturday morning.
In a statement to media outlets on Wednesday, Mashpee Police Chief Scott Carline said an internal investigation has been launched into whether the officers involved followed the department's policy regarding police pursuits.
Carline called the crash a "terrible tragedy" but declined to comment on the investigation. Mashpee police policy states that "a vehicular pursuit is authorized when the need to apprehend a suspect fleeing in a motor vehicle outweighs the risk created by the pursuit," according to Boston 25.
