Medford Police Aid in Mail Order Drug Bust

A man allegedly in possession of 6,000 oxycodone pills was arrested on Feb. 23.

A Boston man allegedly caught with more than 4,000 oxycodone pills in his car was arraigned in Cambridge District Court on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

Steve Pierre, 27, said to have had an additional 2,000 pills at his house, faces multiple drug trafficking charges on the heels of his Feb. 23 arrest. The statement from the Middle District Attorney’s Office credits Medford police for helping with the four-month investigation that led to Pierre’s capture.

Authorities say on Nov. 19, 2014, the US Postal Inspection Service asked them to keep an eye on a man who often received questionable packages sent from Los Angeles at his UPS mailbox in Cambridge. Once they began monitoring Pierre, police say they observed him pick up similar packages seven different times within less than two months.

Pierre is also said to have received two other such deliveries at UPS boxes in Brighton and Waltham during the same period of time - between Nov. 19, 2014 and Jan. 23, 2015.

Once enough evidence was gathered to justify a warrant, police stopped Pierre on the way home from his Feb. 23 trip to the Cambridge UPS. Upon searching his car, police say they found the boatload of suspected oxycodone pills. The ensuing search of his home allegedly yielded another 2,000 such pills, 50 grams of cocaine, and $37,000.
