The following opinion article was sent to Patch Tips by Dr. Jim Vermilyea:

When is an emergency not an emergency? When it lasts three weeks.

Living on a snow emergency route, I have had constant anxiety about whether I will find a parking spot when I get home on an even-numbered side street.

The snow emergencies should be lifted between storms. If specific streets are to get heavy snow removal, then overnight “no parking” signs should be posted.

The Mayor’s Office says to call the police and ask them if they’re still enforcing the ban. The police just say it’s still in effect, and they have no ideas of anywhere to park in West Medford. Some of the people in the duplex I live in on Boston Avenue have had their cars towed.

Enough panic is enough. Mr. Mayor, let’s take some control over this.

Regards, from a tired and angry citizen prowling the streets of West Medford looking for a non-permit, non-emergency route parking space that isn’t already occupied by a chair...
