“The vehicle continued to operate at erratic speeds and was all over the roadway,” according to Sgt. Ron Taylor of NHSP. “Believing this was an impaired operator, (troopers) continued to pursue the vehicle as it exited at Exit 4.”
The troopers continued to pursue the vehicle onto George Road in Hopkinton where it allegedly drove across a field, onto a residential lawn, and then, became stuck in the mud, according to the report. The driver and passenger allegedly fled the scene on foot but the passenger – Mitchell – was caught and arrested.
State police called in its K-9 unit and along with Concord and Hopkinton Police, searched the area looking for the driver but due to limited manpower, they were unable to locate the driver. Additionally, homeowners with good intentions checking their residences contaminated the area making the K-9 track ineffective, Taylor noted.
The driver was ID’d as Miller – a convicted felon on parole for robbery and out on bail after being arrested by Concord Police for willful concealment. The vehicle was towed and state police requested a search warrant of the vehicle. After receiving it, they allegedly found “a dangerous weapon and numerous drug items,” according to the alert.
Troopers than issued a warrant for Miller.
At just before noon, a Hopkinton resident reportedly saw a man matching Miller’s description and called 911. Hopkinton Police arrived and arrested Miller.
Miller was held without bail on a probation hold and refused bail on the criminal charges. Mitchell was held on $1,000 cash bail.
“The State Police want to reassure the public that there was never a public safety risk and that all necessary precautions were taken to prevent a risk to the public,” Taylor stated.
Anyone who witnessed or may have information regarding the vehicle pursuit is urged to contact Trooper Anthony Pratt at 603-223-4381.
