CONCORD, NH — A trucker from New York was arrested on a drunken driving charge after an incident on Saturday on Interstate 89 north in New London.

Around 11:30 p.m., New Hampshire State Police received a report of a tractor-trailer truck traveling “all over the road” and possibly striking a guardrail, according to a motorist, said Amber Lagace, a public information officer for state police. Police in New London located the driver as the truck exited the Interstate at Exit 11. The truck was stopped by the officer and a trooper arrived not long after to conduct a roadside investigation.

The driver, Thomas Hawk, 64, of Newburgh, NY, was arrested on an aggravated driving while intoxicated charge and an open container violation. He was released on personal recognizance bail and is due in Newport District Court on April 11 for arraignment.

Tractor Trailer Crash In Hopkinton

State police from the motor carrier enforcement unit were sent to Hopkinton to assist police after a truck crash on Maple Street.

Lagace accused the driver, Jermayne Eubanks, 42, of Tolland, Connecticut, of attempting to drive off upon learning that state police truck inspectors were on their way. She said he drove into a cement pole and an exit gate, causing a second crash.

“The second crash resulted in significant property damage and caused the front axle of the trailer to become disconnected,” she said.

Eubanks “attempted to flee on foot” but was arrested by Hopkinton police on reckless driving, conduct after an accident, and reckless conduct charges, Lagace said.

State and local police accused Franklin Trucking LLC of Windsor, CT, of several violations after the vehicle was taken out of service. Lagace said investigators blamed “driver inattention” as an initial factor in the crash.

State police requested anyone who might have information, or witnessed the crash, contact the Hopkinton Police Department at 603-746-5151.
