CONCORD, NH — Nearly six months after the bodies of a retired couple were found killed on a trail in East Concord, an arrest has been made.

The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office has issued a warrant against Logan Levar Clegg, 26, a homeless man now located in South Burlington, Vermont, on two charges of second-degree murder. Investigators accused him of “knowingly causing the deaths of Stephen and Djeswende Reid by shooting them multiple times on April 18, 2022, in Concord,” Michael Garrity, the director of communications for the department, said.

Stephen Reid, 67, was a native of Concord. Djeswende Reid, 66, was his wife of nearly four decades. They were living at the Alton Woods apartment complex when they went out for an afternoon walk. Family members said something appeared amiss when Stephen Reid did not arrive for a planned event. Family members last saw the couple on Easter Sunday and communicated with them on Monday. They were reported missing a day later and were found after a massive search by dozens of police officers, including the Central NH Special Operations Unit, Concord’s SWAT team, New Hampshire State Police troopers, and others.

The search shifted from Loudon Road and the Concord Heights to East Concord, along the Broken Ground trail system, specifically, the Marsh Loop Trail. It is unknown what exactly led the police to the area. After about 90 minutes of checking vehicle registrations, speaking to residents, and searching the area, Concord firefighter ATVs were requested along with New Hampshire Fish & Game and state police.

Investigators spent several days on the trail where the bodies were found, focused on an area near power lines and an Eversource electric substation a little less than half a mile from Portsmouth Street. K-9 units, including one from Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department, were called to the area. One, Niko, was specially trained to search for electronics — storage devices including hard drives, SD cards, hidden cameras with storage devices, and cell phones.

The state’s medical examiner ruled the deaths of the Reids to be a double homicide due to “multiple gunshot wounds.”

The warrant was provided to authorities in Vermont, and Clegg was charged as a fugitive from justice on Wednesday. He recently lost an appeal to the Vermont Supreme Court to be released on bail, according to the Associated Press. Clegg is being held at the Northwest State Correctional Facility in St. Albans, VT, where he has been housed on an unrelated charge since Oct. 12.

Garrity said he will be extradited to New Hampshire after his arraignment.
