Concord Retired Couple Killings Reward Increased To $50K: Alert

CONCORD, NH — After more anonymous donations were submitted, the Concord Regional Crimeline increased its reward to $50,000 for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for the deaths of Stephen and Djeswende Reid.

The couple, who retired to Concord in 2019 after working around the United States and overseas for federal contractors and programs, was found dead due to multiple gunshot wounds on the Broken Ground Trails in East Concord on April 21. The couple was last seen after going out for a walk around 2:30 p.m. on April 18. They were reported missing after Stephen Reid, a native of the city, missed an appointment.

Since that time, local, regional, state, and federal investigators have been involved with the case.

The only public evidence released beyond the cause of death, when the couple was missing, and when they were found, was a sketch of a person of interest, the side view of which was captured on a surveillance camera. The person of interest was in the area of the trails at the time investigators presume the shootings occurred.

The person of interest was described as a white man, in his early 20s to late 30s, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, with a medium build, short brown hair, and clean-shaven. The man was wearing a dark blue jacket, possibly with a hood, with khaki-colored pants. He was also carrying a black backpack.

Michael Garrity, the director of communications for the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office, said Thursday that Crimeline had increased its initial donation toward the reward. He said another anonymous donor posted $1,000 while a fourth anonymous donor pledged $15,000 to anyone who comes forward with information during the next two months. Previously, a reward of $20,000 was offered by an anonymous donor if the information was forwarded within 60 days of the killings — which expires on July 17. Another anonymous donor offered $5,000. The Concord Police Patrolmen’s Association and Supervisors Association as well as the Retired New Hampshire State Police Troopers Association have also contributed to the reward amount, Garrity said.
