A Violent Sunday Night, Monday Morning In Downtown Concord: Watch

A robbery at Cumbies; an assault at Wow Billiard & Bar; a search for a gun inside Kennedy Apartments; and vandalism at Market Basket.

CONCORD, NH — It was a busy night on Sunday and Monday morning in the capital city.

Concord police are investigating an unarmed robbery at Cumberland Farms on Sunday night. Around 10:30 p.m., dispatch took a call from an employee claiming a white man, wearing a yellow winter cap with a Boston Bruins logo covering his face and no shoes, came into the store, announcing a robbery while demanding money. The suspect then left the store but was seen pacing outside for a few moments, the clerk told dispatch.

When police arrived, the suspect was gone.

New Hampshire State Police, who had their K-9 in the area, brought it to the store while police waited for a supervisor to gain access to security footage. Bow police also brought its K-9.

Homeless campers underneath the Loudon Road bridge were also questioned about the incident.

Another Fight At Wow Billiard

Around 11 p.m., officers were sent to the are of Gibson’s Bookstore after receiving a report of a possible assault.

A witness reported a woman being beaten by a Black man while three others watched. One man wore a red hat while another wore a ski mask. One of the three was also brandishing a firearm, the witness told dispatch said. The men later left the scene, heading toward The Draft on South Main Street.

Officers headed to South Main Street and searched the area. One, who went directly to The Draft, ran into a woman there who was another witness to the assault. She knew one of the men and described the others. She also said the incident initially occurred at Wow Billiard & Bar on North Main Street while she was attempting to intervene in a fight. She did not see a firearm, though, an officer said.

A second officer checked the bar and casino for the suspects. Later, a witness reported to police the men kept walking south on South Main Street.

An Apartment On Thompson Street Checked

Knowing the name of one of the men, one officer went to the Kennedy Apartments on Thompson Street to speak to him.

While there, the officers spoke with two other people — one was out on probation after a theft incident in Newport, while the other was from Detroit, Michigan, according to scanner chatter.

The man denied the claim there was a firearm and let police search the apartment. No gun was found, the officer stated.

At the same time, more officers returned to the homeless campers under the Loudon Road bridge to canvas suspects in the robbery.

Man Reportedly Smashed Store Door

At around 12:15 a.m., a security company watching over Capital Plaza called the police to report a man kicking one of the doors of Market Basket on Storrs Street.

Officers spoke with the man, who previously lived in Manchester and Pittsfield and was out on probation after a criminal mischief conviction. He was also accused of being involved in a shooting in Nashua in April 2022.

The man also may have been involved in the initial assault incident. He was also in possession of more than $4,100, an officer said.

The man was taken into protective custody later.

Around 1 a.m., the Cumbies robbery suspect reportedly returned to the store.

Officers were sent back to the store and trespassed a man. At post time, whether he was confirmed to be the robbery suspect was unknown.

According to Deputy Chief John Thomas, no arrests have occurred in any of the incidents.
