Ariana Jessica Espinola, 32, of C Street in Epsom was arrested at 1:45 a.m. on March 11 on a felony operating after being certified as a habitual offender and disobeying an officer charges as well as a tail lamp and reflectors violation. An officer on Interstate 393 saw a Hyundai Azera with a defective side plate light drive by and pulled the vehicle over on East Side Drive near Exit 2. Two women were in the vehicle and the officer reported smelling alcohol, an affidavit said. The officer requested the driver’s license, began asking her questions, and said she was acting nervous and could not answer her date of birth. The passenger then told the driver what the birthdate was and the officer asked for the last four digits of the driver’s Social Security number but could only list three of them. “The operator told me that she was just nervous because she was stopped by the police,” the officer wrote. After finding the license was active, a second officer questioned the passenger, who said she was Espinola, an affidavit said. She spelled Espinola’s name wrong and looked older than Espinola, the reporting officer wrote. The report said the officer asked the passenger to pull up her Facebook page and eyed an ID card. After further examination, the officer wrote, he accused the women of switching IDs. The officer went to the vehicle and asked Espinola to step out again. When the passenger asked, “Me stop out?,” the officer countered, “No, the real Ariana,” an affidavit said. Espinola then stepped out and admitted what her real name was, the report said. According to a motor vehicle record, Espinola was deemed a habitual offender in September 2020. Twice before, according to the affidavit, she had been convicted on driving after revocation or suspension in January 2020 and February 2018.
