Exeter Hosts Quad | Portsmouth, Souhegan Compete At Invitational | Salem Takes 3 In MA: NH Wrestling Roundup

Nashua South, Milford post wins; Manchester schools battle in bouts at City Champ; Bedford, Merrimack, Windham, and Winnacunnet compete.

EXETER, NH — It was another busy weekend for New Hampshire wrestlers as they get their final bouts in before championship season begins.

According to the schedule, junior varsity wrestlers will compete at their state championship at the Timberlane Regional High School on Feb. 14. On Feb. 21, at Londonderry High School, Divisions I, II, and III will have competitions to send their top wrestlers to the Meet of Champions at Pinkerton Academy on Feb. 28. The Top 3 finishers of MOCs head to Providence, Rhode Island, to compete for two days in the New England tournament.

More Results From Exeter Quad

Exeter hosted a quad on Saturday with wrestlers from Concord, Franklin, Spaulding, and Winnisquam.

The Blue Hawks lost to Concord, 56-15, and Winnisquam, 57-21.

In the bouts vs. Winnisquam, Ryan Grandmason in the 150-pound bracket won by pin, as did Juan Bueno in the 165. James Haney, in the 175 for Exeter, won by major decision, 14-3. Reid Grandmason in the 113 won by tech fall, 17-1.

Spaulding lost to Winnisquam, 58-20, and to Concord, 74-5.

Winnisquam also lost to Concord, 61-10.

Franklin also took on Exeter, Spaulding, Winnisquam, and several Concord junior varsity wrestlers on Saturday.

Nashua South Beats Pelham But Falls To Milford

The Purple Panthers also hosted a quad on Saturday, winning one but dropping another.

South beat Pelham, 42-30. South won four bouts by forfeit, while Pelham won three. There were also two double forfeits. Winning bouts for Nashua included Elijah Phillips in the 106, Benny Byrne in the 157, and Ian McCubrey in the 215, all by pins.

South lost to the Spartans, 70-12. In the 106, Connor Hartigan of Milford won by pin, as did Colton Schuster in the 113. In the 126, Max Hammerstrom won by tech fall, 18-1. Cameron Stickney won by pin in the 132, as did Francisco Juvera in the 138, and Calix Lajoie in the 144, all of Milford. Byrne of South won by pin in the 157. Elijah Wales in the 190 for Milford won by tech fall, 17-1. In the 215, Ian McCubrey of South won by pin. Milford also had five forfeit wins.

Manchester City Champ Results

Central, Memorial, and West all competed in a quad on Saturday.

Memorial beat Central, 67-6, while West beat Memorial, 51-30.

In the Memorial vs. Central meet, Jaxyn Shulman won by major decision, 19-9. Arman Collins, Central’s only win in the 132, won by pin. Michael Goodwin won by pin in the 150. Ethan Marchant won, 6-3, in the 165. Yazen Al Janabi won by pin in the 215. Memorial also earned eight wins by forfeit.

In the West vs. Memorial meet, Saddrudin Zahid of West won by pin in the 126. Colin Taylor of West won 12-8 in the 144. Goodwin of Memorial won by pin in the 150. In the 157, Dominic Turgeon won by pin for West as did Carlos Ascencio for West in the 165, and Tristan Sar for West in the 175. Xavier Moreau in the 190 for Memorial won by fall, as did Jayden Nartey in the 215 for West, and John Ramos Rodriguez in the 285 for Memorial. Angel Diaz in the 106 for West also won by fall. Memorial also had two wins by forfeit, while West had one.

Portsmouth, Souhegan Compete At Plymouth Invitational

Portsmouth and Souhegan wrestlers battled it out against two dozen other schools, mostly from New Hampshire but a few from Vermont, in Plymouth on Saturday.

For Portsmouth, in the 106, Kendall Sapiel went 0-2, Luke Polizzo in the 113 went 1-2, Vinnie Cress in the 120 went 2-0 with a bye, Justin Maynard was 2-2 with a bye in the 126, and Hayden Korth in the 132 went 0-2 with 2 byes. AJ Craig was 4-0. Owen Foster in the 144 was 0-2 with a bye. Mikey Shortill and Emmanuel Poupon were 1-1 with a bye each. In the 165, Stephen Whisler was 3-0 with a bye. Zack LaValley in the 175 was 3-1 with a bye and Hunter Griffin in the 215 was 0-2 with a bye.

For Souhegan, Mary Wellen in the 113 was 1-2, Nathan Stout in the 120 was 4-1 with a bye, Owen Kostecki was 1-2, Jack Kaler in the 132 was 4-0 with a bye, Landon Carson was 4-1 in the 138, Chase Knuckles was 3-1 with a bye, Brennon Mielke was 0-2 with a bye in the 150. Patrick Casey in the 165 was 3-1. Charles Fearon was 0-2 with a bye in the 165. Cole Mobley was 1-2 with a bye and Gabe Holt, in the 215, was 3-0 with a bye.

Salem Wins 3 Of 4 In Haverhill

The Blue Devils were in Haverhill, Massachusetts, for duals with several schools.

Salem beat Chicopee, 67-12, Haverhill, 38-32, and Newton South, 58-19, but lost to Lowell, 42-30.

Against Chicopee, Ella Paris in the 106, John Blocksidge in the 113, Maddox Boudreau in the 120, and Jacob Haibowicz in the 138 all won by falls. Trevor O’Brien in the 144 won by tech fall, 26-7. Alexander Bryant in the 150 and Carter Lemire in the 157 won by pins. John Vargas in the 165 won by tech fall, 16-1. Jaxson Donahue in the 190 won, 9-2, while Jack McElroy in the 215 won by fall. Salem also won two bouts by forfeit.

Against Haverhill, Paris, Blocksidge, and Mykel Walters, in the 126, all won by falls. O’Brien won by tech fall, 19-4, while Bryant won by decision, 9-5. Finnegan Parello for Salem in the 150 won 13-8. Lemire won by fall, and Donahue won, 9-3.

Versus Newton South, Paris, Blocksidge, Boudreau, and Haibowicz won by falls. O’Brien won by major decision, 10-1. Parello, Lemire, and Liam Sweeney in the 285 all won by pins. Salem also won two bouts by forfeit.

In the bouts against Lowell, Blocksidge won by fall, as did Walters, Lemire, and Liam Hoey in the 165. O’Brien won a major decision, 15-7, and Zander Wood in the 190 won by major decision, 13-4.

Goffstown Wins 2 At Alvirne Quad

Alivirne, Bedford, Bishop Guertin, Goffstown, Pinkerton Academy, and Windham all competed at a super quad in Hudson on Saturday.

The only scores available were Goffstown beating Alvirne, 60-24, and Bedford, 49-30.

Bulldog wrestlers winning bouts included Grace Kenna in the 120, Camden Santos in the 175, Gavin McConnell in the 190, Will Riley in the 215, and Matthew Been in the 285, all by pins.

Scores for Bishop Guertin, Pinkerton Academy, and Windham were not available at the time of publication.

Other Meets

On Thursday, Alvirne, Bedford, Bishop Guertin, and Winnacunnet competed at the BH Super Quad, but no results were available at the time of publication.

Keene competed in both the Frontier and Hillie duals, but no results were available. Merrimack at the Hillie duals, but scores were not available.

Bow, Hollis Brookline, Nashua North, and Timberlane Regional were all supposed to compete in a quad, but it was canceled.
