Death Investigation At NY Giants Player's NJ Home: What We Know

The body is that of Roosevelt Rene, 25, a music producer and friend of the cornerback Janoris Jenkins.

FAIR LAWN, NJ — Authorities continue their homicide investigation of the death of a friend of New York Giants player Janoris Jenkins after his body was found in the NFL player's home Tuesday.

The body of Roosevelt Rene, 25, was found in Jenkins' Van Saun Place home Tuesday, said acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo. Fair Lawn Police received a call about the body just before 10:30 a.m., Fair Lawn Police Sgt. Brian Metzler confirmed.

  • Janoris Jenkins' brother, William was charged with aggravated manslaughter in Rene's death, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and Fair Lawn Police Department stated.
  • William Jenkins and Rene were involved in a "physical altercation" in the Fair Lawn home early Monday morning, acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo said.
  • Jenkins was not at home when Rene's body was discovered, ESPN reported. Jenkins has been in Florida since Giants minicamp ended two weeks ago, according to sources. Jenkins' attorneys advised him to stay in Florida.
  • Multiple sources who have connected directly with Jenkins told ESPN that he is"good" and "OK" and "waiting for the legal process to play out."
  • Rene was a hip-hop and R&B music producer known as Trypps Beatz. He describes himself on his website as a "multi-talented hip-hop producer/artist. Trypps Beatz motives are to enlighten the youth and others to be creative, have self-consciousness and inspire the world with their artistry and hip-hop culture."
  • Rene was a fixture in the neighborhood and told people he was Jenkins' brother.

"He always parked his car in front of my house and hung out after getting his cigarettes at Morlot News and Food," a neighbor told the Daily Voice. "He told us he was Jenkins' brother."

  • Fair Lawn Police previously said Jenkins has lived at the house since he became a member of the Giants two years ago. Neighbors said Jenkins is a "good guy."

"We're just trying to support him," neighbor Patti Golick told ABC7. "We have no complaints. He's a good guy, a perfect neighbor."

  • The New York Giants are "aware of and monitoring the situation," according to multiple reports.
  • The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit, the Bergen County Sheriff's Office, and the Fair Lawn Police Department were at the house investigating the death, said Metzler.
  • The Bergen County Medical Examiner's Office will perform an autopsy on Rene's body to determine the cause of death. More information will be released once it is available, authorities said.
