Cops: Body Of Woman Who Faced Online Bullying, Then Jumped From George Washington Bridge Recovered

The body of a Wall transgendered woman weeks after she jumped to her death off of the George Washington Bridge, authorities said.

Rachel Bryk, 23, jumped to her death from the bridge April 23. Her body was recovered Thursday, authorities said.

Teams spotted her corpse floating in the Hudson River during their initial search, theNew York Daily News reported, but it sunk below the water before rescue teams could recover it.

An off-duty policewoman shouted to Byrk before she jumped: “Don’t do it! Don’t jump!”

Byrk faced brutal online bullying and faced “constant transphobia” before her death and wrote about it online.

“DO IT, if you’re such a weak willed thin-skinned dip s**t then (expletive) do it,” read one message posted on an online message board to Byrk.

A police source familiar with the incident said that Bryk left her shoes, purse, and ID behind.

A tweet Byrk scheduled to post eight hours after she died read: “Guess I am dead. Killed myself. Sorry.”

Byrk was born with the name Roger in 1992. She struggled with depression and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. Her mother, Lisa Baker Bryk, attributed her suicide to her daughter’s medical conditions.
