Armed Robbery Reported at Hamptons Gas Station: Police

BREAKING: The armed robbery was the second reported in the area on New Year's Day, police said.

WAINSCOTT, NY โ€” An armed masked gunman held up a Wainscott gas station on New Year's Day, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, authorities are investigating an armed robbery that took place at the Speedway gas station, located at 346 Montauk Highway in Wainscott, at 11:37 a.m.

A convenience store clerk, 42, was confronted by a man who displayed what appeared to be a handgun, police said.

The man demanded money and from the register and made off with an undetermined amount of cash, police said.

The thief then fled on foot and headed northwest, police said; no injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as male, either Caucasian or Hispanic, wearing a dark-colored ski cap, face mask, glasses, a dark-colored sweatshirt and dark-colored pants, police said.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the East Hampton Town Police Department at 631-537-7575. All calls will be kept confidential.

The armed robbery was the second on New Year's Day in the area: An earlier gunpoint robbery of a gas station was reported in Calverton on New Year's morning, police said.
