Cops: Woman's Pocketbook Stolen at Massapequa Gym

Police searching for woman caught on surveillance cameras using stolen debit card in Suffolk County.

Nassau detectives are searching for a woman who used a debit card stolen from a woman as she worked out at a Massapequa gym.

Police said the 23-year-old victim was at Synergy Gym when she received a text from her bank saying her debit card had been used at a nearby Waldbaums. When she returned to her locker, she found it had been broken into and her car keys were stolen. The victim then went to the parking lot and discovered her pocketbook had been stolen from her car.

Officers said the theft happened at 2:40 p.m. on Jan. 7.

Police released surveillance photos Thursday of the woman they believe to be responsible for the theft. Detectives said she made two cash withdrawals from the victim’s account at Astoria Bank in West Babylon and Bay Shore.

Time stamps on the photos show withdrawals were made Jan. 12 at 12:18 p.m. and Jan. 13 at 1:26 p.m.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
