A gifted storyteller and musician, Francine will be sharing with everyone traditional teaching stories and music that promises to be a treat for all ages. For example, did you know there's a song to ward off mosquitoes? Get a chance to learn it and sing along! Did you ever wonder why dogs are so loyal and called "Man's best friend" ? Hear the exciting story for yourself! Children attending will get to participate in a Feather Dance!   Event is FREE with museum admission

Celebrate Founder's Day with us! Our founder, Carl Bornfriend, worked tirelessly to build the museum we all know and love. Even though he's not physically greeting our visitors, he's with us in every exhibit and step of further growth. As an open show of our continued gratitude and appreciation, this day is dedicated to celebrating all his accomplishments. One way we will do this is give everyone the opportunity to visit the Frisco Native American Museum &amp; Natural History Center with only a small donation of a non-perishable food item - NO admission fee. Join us with a day dedicated to the celebration of exploration and learning. Arrangements for free admission are easy. Attendees simply need to bring at least one can of food per person which will be donated to the Hatteras Island Food Pantry. Of course, other non-perishable pantry items are also welcomed. Don't forget about Pets! We will also be giving away seeds from some of our flowers from our pollinator garden! Carl was a horticulturist that loved yellow so we will be including lance leaf coreopsis and black eyed Susans for visitors to plant and share in the joy of the sunshine-yellow blossoms. Seeds will be only as supplies last as they have all been harvested from our own plants.

Ocracoke Ghost and History Walks

Ocracoke Ghost and History Walking Tours 2026 Join us for an evening of fascinating history and ghostly tales from Ocracoke Island. Programs are offered most Tuesdays and Fridays from May 19 through September 29. Tours leave promptly at 7:30 PM and last approximately 1.5 hours. Cost is $20/adults (13 years and older), $10/children (12 years and under). Tax and fees are not included. Kids ages 4 and under are free. Kids 4 and younger need no reservation, but must be accompanied by a responsible ticketed adult. Reservations can only be made online at https://www.villagecraftsmen.com/ghostwalk/. Space is limited. We cannot offer a waiting list, so it is best to book early once you know your plans.. Tickets are not refundable for no-shows or cancellations within 48 hours of the event. If you have any questions you may text 252-928-5541. Tours are weather dependent. If a tour is cancelled due to weather, tickets will be fully refunded.

Museum celebrates 40th Anniversary sharing Native History

In 1984 Carl Bornfriend came to the Outer Banks for a teaching position. He fell in love with Hatteras Island and purchased a house in Frisco. He began looking for ways to share his significant collection of Native American artifacts, and in 1985, he purchased the small building adjacent to his house. In 1986 Frisco Native American Museum &amp; Natural History Center, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization was born. Beginning as a small three room building the museum now spans seven galleries, an outdoor trail featuring stories and displays, and a cultural auditorium for special events. Just added this year - A Drum Room! Come in and play a powwow drum, try a rattle or rain stick. Make a video and share it with us. To celebrate our 40th anniversary six special events are scheduled from June to October. A Moth Night in June, Native Dance in July, August features traditional weapons and foraging lessons, and story telling in September and October. All special events are FREE with Museum Admission. The museum is open everyday, except Monday, from 10am to 5pm. Admission is $5 for Seniors &amp; kids, $8 for Individuals, and $20 for families (2 adults &amp; up to 4 kids).
