More Details Emerge in Death of 10-Year-Old Boy Riding World's Tallest Water Slide

The Schlitterbahn Water Park remains closed and is tentatively set to reopen on Wednesday.

KANSAS CITY, KS — The 10-year-old boy who died while riding the world's tallest water slide in Kansas died of a neck injury, Kansas City police said in a statement.

The boy, identified as Caleb Schwab, was one of three passengers riding on a boat on the "Verrückt" water slide when an off-duty officer working at the Schlitterbahn Water Park notified police that an incident had occurred on the slide around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Authorities responded to the scene and located Schwab at the end of the ride in the pool, deceased from a neck injury. Two other adult female riders in the boat, who were not related to the boy, sustained minor facial injuries and were transported and treated at area hospitals.

Caleb was the son of state Rep. Scott Schwab and his wife Michelle Schwab. Schwab, a Republican, represents Kansas' 49th district. He served his first term in 2003 and started his current term in 2009.

The "Verrückt" permits two to three riders per raft with a combined weight of between 400-550 pounds. Riders have to be at least 54 inches tall in order to get on the water slide.

"Adventure seekers will be able to share this experience as they strap into a 3 person raft that will slide down a jaw dropping 168 foot 7 inch structure, only to be blasted back up a second massive hill and then sent down yet another gut wrenching 50 foot drop for the ultimate in water slide thrills," a description on the Schlitterbahn website says.

The park is tentatively set to reopen on Wednesday while the water slide remains closed.

On Monday night, three girls were injured, one critically, after falling out of a Ferris wheel at a county fair in Eastern Tennessee.
