He had spent a lot of time watching Hollywood movies that had been translated into Dari, his native language, and they left the young Afghan boy with strong impressions of the United States — so strong he dreamed of moving there.
His dream of coming to the United States was far different from the reality he experienced in getting here, however. Mir was among the thousands of Afghan refugees who fled the country in August when the United States withdrew the rest of its troops from Afghanistan last summer.
Eight months after a solo journey that took him from the chaos of Kabul to the suburban confines of the Brick Township home of Christie and Greg Williams and their three children, Mir said he is happy to be here.

Recently, Asani Anderson, who's worked for Amazon for four months, was caught on the Hutson family's home security camera leaving a heartwarming message in chalk on their front doorstep for 8-year-old Aubrey Hope Hutson who is battling stage IV cancer.
"Amazon is praying 4 Aubrey luv you!" the message read.
Missing Dog Roams Through Holland Tunnel, Is Rescued On Mother's Day
"Bailey," a mixed breed shepherd puppy, is now safe after he had a harrowing adventure on Mother's Day in (and out of) the Holland Tunnel in New Jersey.
Port Authority police officers said that the shepherd mix disappeared from New York City last week. At approximately 9:15 a.m. on Mother's Day, the Holland Tunnel desk received a call of a loose dog in the North Tube of the tunnel.
The pup was eventually rescued, and taken to the Liberty Humane Society in Jersey City for further treatment.
Animal control estimated Bailey to be about seven months old, a male and an Akita and shepherd mixed breed, the Port Authority said.
