After more than a year of strict border control, Canadian officials this week said they plan to reopen the country to fully vaccinated Americans and other travelers.

Starting Aug. 9, citizens and permanent residents of the United States can travel to Canada as long as they have been fully vaccinated for at least 14 days before the trip, The New York Times reported. Officials then hope to allow visitors from other countries beginning on Sept. 7.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau planned to reopen Canada’s borders once 75 percent of residents had received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine. Canada has since hit that milestone.
