Crossing Guard Dog Keeps Kids Safe, Is Adorable

One of the staples of any school district is the reliable crossing guard.

For the Jersey Shore School District (which is located in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania), they don’t just have a crossing guard, but a crossing guard dog, as well.

Meet Patches, a five-year-old multipoo who follows Brad Curtis, a retired contractor, to work each day as a crossing guard.

Patches has a safety vest and little stop sign on his outfit, too.

“He’s just like, a mascot to Jersey Shore,” Rosie Weymouth, owner of Rosie’s Cutting Corners, told WNEP 16 in Scranton, PA. Weymouth’s hair salon is located next to the crosswalk where Brad and Patches work. She gets a nice view of the pair each school day.

Neighbors comment on the well-behaved nature of Patches, who follows his human owner (and co-worker) wherever he goes.

“He waits right on the curb until I step off and then he goes,” said Curtis.

The plan is for Patches to join Curtis at work until the weather gets cold, at which time he’ll stay home.

One of the passing students summed up the situation pretty well, saying, “Well, it’s a cute dog and it has that little stop sign on it and it looks really, really cute and it also looks like a poodle.”
