Donald Trump's Massive Debt, Backtracking on Mass Deportations, Rudy Giuliani on Clinton's 'Illness' and More
Donald Trump's weekend included an uncovering of his business debt, a softening on his mass deportation position and more from the news.
Donald Trump is coming off of a bad weekend in which a New York Times investigation found that the Republican presidential nominee's companies are at least $651 million in debt. He also appeared to soften is position on one of the pillars of his campaign: mass deportations. And his surrogates, including former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, are trying to plant a false story about rival Hillary Clinton's health.

In The Latest Shift, Trump Campaign Wavers on Mass Deportations: "Donald Trump’s campaign wavered Sunday on whether he would continue to call for the mass deportation of 11 million illegal immigrants from the United States, the latest in a series of sometimes-clumsy attempts to win over moderate GOP voters without alienating millions who have flocked to his hard-line views." National Polls Show The Race Tightening — But State Polls Don't: "Hillary Clinton moved into a clear polling lead over Donald Trump just after the Democratic convention, which ended on July 28. Pretty much ever since, the reporters and poll watchers that I follow have seemed eager to tell the next twist in the story. Would Trump’s numbers get even worse, possibly leading to the first double-digit victory for a Democratic presidential candidate since 1964? Or would Trump mount a comeback? As of last Tuesday, there wasn’t much evidence of an overall shift in the race. Trump was gaining ground in some polls but losing ground in a roughly equal number of them." (FiveThirtyEight)
