Powerball Raises Jackpot To $1B: What To Know

Powerball officials said Tuesday they raised the jackpot for Wednesday night’s drawing to $1 billion after stronger-than-expected ticket sales pushed the prize up from $975 million.

Ticket sales for Monday’s drawing were more than 86 percent higher than for the previous Monday drawing, officials said. Wednesday’s drawing takes place at 10:59 p.m. ET

The jackpot carries an estimated cash value of $433.1 million and is now the eighth-largest in Powerball history and the biggest U.S. lottery jackpot offered so far in 2026.

Powerball tickets are sold at licensed lottery retailers, including gas stations, convenience stores and grocery stores. Players in Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, D.C., can buy tickets directly through the official state lottery website or app.

Odds Aren’t Great

The winning numbers in the Monday drawing were white balls 6, 37, 54, 55, 64 and red Powerball 10. The Power Play multiplier was 3.

Tickets cost $2 and are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the United Kingdom.

The odds remain decidedly less exciting than the jackpot: 1 in 292.2 million to win the grand prize. The overall odds of winning any Powerball prize are 1 in 24.9.

$1M Prizes Monday

Although there was no jackpot winner, lotteries are reminding players to check their tickets carefully, as many tickets won cash prizes in Monday night’s drawing.

Two tickets sold in California and Maryland matched all five white balls to win the Match 5 prize. The Match 5 prize is a set cash prize of $1 million, except in California, where prize payouts are pari-mutuel and determined by sales and the number of winners. Another ticket sold in Tennessee matched all five white balls and, because it included the Power Play option for an additional $1, increased its winnings to $2 million.

In the Double Play drawing, two tickets sold in Colorado and New Jersey won $500,000 prizes after matching all five black balls. Double Play is a $1 add-on feature that allows players to play their Powerball numbers again in a separate drawing for a chance to win up to $10 million.

No Winner Since May

Wednesday’s drawing will be the 44th consecutive drawing in the current jackpot run. The Powerball jackpot was last won on May 2, when two tickets in Florida and Texas split a $20 million jackpot.

Game leaders emphasized that proceeds from every $2 ticket sold during this jackpot run are helping support local communities where those tickets are purchased.

“This is the most exciting jackpot run we’ve seen all year, but it’s also important to remember that every $2 Powerball ticket purchased helps support public programs and services,” Stephen Durrell, Powerball Product Group chair and Kansas Lottery executive director, said in a news release. “Because a portion of each ticket sold stays where it was purchased, the benefits of Powerball are felt in communities across the country and around the world.”
