Captain Brett E. Crozier, the Navy captain who was removed from his position on the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier for his critique of the service's handling of the new coronavirus among service members on the ship, has tested positive for COVID-19, according to sources telling the New York Times.

The captain had exhibited symptoms before he was removed from the vessel on Thursday, two of his Naval Academy classmates told the New York Times.

Cozier was fired after a leak to The San Francisco Chronicle of a letter he had emailed to Navy leaders that outlined systematic failures on the Navy's part to provide the necessary resources to combating the spread of the virus on his ship.
