As the ongoing new coronavirus crisis sweeps through the United States, it's likely that most gyms will be closed as people practice social distancing.

All is not lost, however, for Americans still looking to work out.

Peloton and Planet Fitness know people will be stuck at home for at least a couple of weeks, and the two fitness companies are offering different versions of free at-home workouts people can follow along to on their computer or TV.

Peloton, an exercise company centered on biking, is offering new subscribers a 90-day trial rather than its usual 30-day period. You need to download the app to follow along with the at-home workouts, but the training programs don't require a Peloton-brand treadmill or bike to participate.

People looking for a sweat can try yoga, stretching, strength training and other classes.

"As the leader in at-home fitness, Peloton is in a position to help millions of people to continue to exercise and reduce stress amid growing health concerns," said Karina Kogan, the senior vice president of Peloton Digital, in an email to Patch. "By extending our free-trial period, and providing a wider audience with access to our world-class fitness content, we hope to be able to positively impact more people lives, while helping them focus on their physical, mental and emotional well-being during a time when everyone needs it most."

Planet Fitness, one of the nation's largest gyms, is also stepping up to help people get solid workouts in at home. It has been offering free online classes since Monday and will continue to do so for the next two weeks.

The workouts will be livestreamed at 7 p.m. daily on Planet Fitness' Facebook page and YouTube channel. The workouts are led by Planet Fitness-certified trainers.
