Texas Weather: Overnight Storms Hit State; 5 Killed in Flooding

Severe weather hit Texas overnight leading to flooding and wind damage in parts of the state.

A strong storm pounded Texas once again overnight Friday and into Saturday, causing extensive damage and leaving a grandmother and her four grandchildren dead.

The severe weather is due to a strong storm that is slowly moving east, according to the National Weather Service. Much of the Houston area remains under watches for severe thunderstorms and flooding while a flood warning is in effect for the Dallas region.

Widespread damage was reported in Central Texas due to the strong winds and storm that moved through the area early Saturday. In East Texas, a woman and her four grandchildren were killed due to the overnight flooding, NBC DFW reported.

Two tornadoes were reported in the state. On Friday, a tornado was reported 70 miles north of Dallas while a possible tornado in Lindale, roughly 90 miles east of Dallas, led to a disaster declaration in Smith County. The state saw similar weather on Tuesday but forecasters predicted Friday's storms to be the much stronger.

The weather is expected to clear up on Saturday with pleasant weather forecast for the rest of the weekend.
