Tired Mom Tells Off Airline Passenger Who Disciplined Her Son

You "rude, unsympathetic curmudgeon," tired mom writes in epic tell-off after a passenger disciplines her son during a Thanksgiving flight.

Anyone who has ever been irritated on a flight by a restless toddler should read a letter from “Protective and Tired Mother,” who flew with her 3-year-old son over the Thanksgiving holiday. The boy kicked the seat of the passenger in front of him and instead of minding his own business, the passenger acted the part of a “rude, unsympathetic curmudgeon,” the boy’s mother wrote, adding more stress to what she said already had been a nerve-wracking day.

And in the name of frazzled moms everywhere, did Protective and Tired Mother let Rude, Unsympathetic Curmudgeon have it.

“I don’t know your story or your past, but let me assume for a second that in your younger years, you flew with a toddler,” she wrote. “Can you try to remember how difficult that was?”

The Mother recapped the four hours leading up to the flight, during which she had lugged around the 32-pound boy, their luggage, his seven-pound car seat, his snacks and pillow, and everything else needed to keep him happy and occupied on the airplane. When she finally settled into the coach seat, she was hoping for a tiny break once they boarded.

Yes, she wrote, children can be annoying on flights and make travel more stressful for other passengers. She understands that and, on 32 previous flights in the youngster’s life, she has held his feet “for two hours in an attempt to quell the kicking.”

This time, because of the passenger's decision to stand up and scold her son, she wrote that she may as well just let it rip and relax with a bloody Mary.

“The first mistake you made was calling him ‘sweetheart,’ ” Protective and Tired Mother wrote in the epic tell-off, published on the mom website Popsugar.com.

“The second mistake you made was bringing too much attention to the situation. You have poked the bear, and he now thinks it's funny to kick your seat,” she continued. “The third mistake you made was pissing ME off by addressing him and not me — your only hope.”

Protective and Tired Mother also thanked a woman sitting in the row in front of her squirming son, whose seat also was kicked multiple times. She called the woman her “hero” and a “breath of fresh air.”

Protective and Tired Mother wrote she was afraid she would be “scorned” when the woman stood up and turned around. Instead, she was "pleasantly surprised" when the woman asked to see her son's "adorable face" and delicately tickled his feet until he giggled.
