U.S. Children's Hospitals Filling Fast As Omicron Spreads: Report

While doctors are seeing record positive results from pediatric coronavirus tests, the vast majority of new cases have been mild.

ACROSS AMERICA — U.S. pediatric hospitals have admitted nearly 800 children per day this week as a rise in omicron cases — combined with cases of the flu, broken bones, and other treatments — creates yet another crisis for health care providers.

Ohio, Texas, Pennsylvania, and New York have been hit particularly hard, according to a report by The Washington Post. As of Thursday, there were 1,987 confirmed or suspected pediatric COVID-19 patients hospitalized nationally, a 31 percent jump in 10 days.

While doctors are seeing record positive results from pediatric coronavirus tests, the vast majority of cases so far have been mild and look like the common cold.

Since the start of the pandemic, nearly 7.4 million children and adolescents have been infected. More than 170,000 were added to that total in the last week alone, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics.
