Walmart Could Owe You $500 Due To Lawsuit: How To File A Claim
Walmart recently settled a lawsuit claiming the company sold certain products for more than the advertised price.

Walmart shoppers could be eligible to receive $500 as part of a lawsuit settlement claiming the retail giant sold certain items for more than the advertised price.
The lawsuit filed in federal court in the Middle District of Florida claims Walmart customers purchased weighted goods or bagged citrus items for more than the lowest in-store advertised price for those products.

- Sold-by-weight meat including poultry, pork, and seafood products.
- Select organic oranges, tangerines, grapefruit and navel oranges that were sold in bulk in plastic or mesh bags.

The lawsuit, first obtained by Today.com, claimed Walmart executed an "allegedly deceptive pricing scheme" by "falsely inflating the product weight" on weighed products and mislabeling the weight of bagged products.

The lawsuit also claimed clearance sold-by-weight products including seafood were sold at the cash register for more than the advertised price.
Walmart has denied the allegations, according to the settlement website.
"We will continue providing our customers everyday low prices to help them save money on the products they want and need," Walmart said in a statement to Today.com. "We still deny the allegations, however we believe a settlement is in the best interest of both parties."
By settling, Walmart has agreed to pay $45 million to customers. Some could receive up to $500.
Anyone who purchased the products included in the lawsuit between October 2018 and January 2024 is eligible to file a claim. Payments will vary based on what shoppers bought and whether they can provide proof of purchase.
Possible cash payment amounts include:
- $10: If you have no proof of purchase but claim you purchased 50 weighted goods and/or bagged citrus products in person.
- $15: If you have no proof of purchase but claim you purchased 51-75 weighted goods and/or bagged citrus products in person.
- $20: If you have no proof of purchase but claim you purchased 76-100 weighted goods and/or bagged citrus products in person.
- $25: If you have no proof of purchase but claim you purchased 101 or more weighted goods and/or bagged citrus products in person.
- Up to $500: If you have proof of purchase for each weighted good and/or bagged citrus product that you purchased in person, you will receive 2 percent of what you paid, up to $500.
How To File A Claim
If eligible, customers can submit a claim form online or via mail. The claim must be postmarked or submitted by June 5.
Customers will receive payment electronically through Venmo, Zelle, ACH or a virtual pre-paid MasterCard. Those who prefer a paper check can request one.
