Arlington Coronavirus Update: 15 Additional Cases, 1 New Death
Virginia Health Department confirmed 15 additional cases of the new coronavirus Tuesday in the Arlington Health District.
ARLINGTON, VA — Virginia Department of Health reported one new death Tuesday due to COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus, in the Arlington Health District. The total of COVID-19-related deaths in the Arlington Health District remains at 138.
VDH officials reported 15 new coronavirus cases Tuesday, which is down slightly from from the 17 new cases reported on Sunday. This brings the total to 3,415.
In the health district, there have been a total of 452 hospitalized patients to date.

As of Tuesday, there are 114,635 total cases statewide, according to data reported by the Virginia Department of Health. In Virginia, there have been 2,494 coronavirus-related deaths to date. There have been a total of 9,259 hospitalized COVID-19 patients.
VDH reported Tuesday that 48,795 COVID-19 tests have been taken in Arlington, with a 5.2 percent positivity rate. Statewide there have been 1,615,692 COVID-19 tests taken, with a 6.6 percent positivity rate, according to VDH.

There have been 19 coronavirus outbreaks in the Arlington Health District as of Tuesday, with 560 cases related to an outbreak. There have been 14 outbreaks at long-term care facilities, two outbreaks at a congregate setting and three outbreaks in health care settings in Arlington. There have been 195 reported coronavirus cases in Arlington involving health care workers.
Globally, more than 23.6 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 814,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Tuesday morning. In the United States, more than 5.7 million people have been infected and over 177,000 people have died from COVID-19.

Arlington residents should take the following actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used if soap and water are not available.
- Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
