Arlington Coronavirus Update: 20 More Cases, No New Death​​s

Virginia Department of Health confirmed 20 additional cases of the new coronavirus Wednesday in the Arlington Health District.

ARLINGTON, VA — Virginia Department of Health reported no new deaths Wednesday due to COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus, in the Arlington Health District. The total of COVID-19-related deaths in the Arlington Health District remains at 138.

VDH officials reported 20 new coronavirus cases Wednesday, which is up from the 15 new cases reported on Tuesday. This brings the total to 3,435.

In the health district, there have been a total of 452 hospitalized patients to date.

As of Wednesday, there are 115,458 total cases statewide, according to data reported by the Virginia Department of Health. In Virginia, there have been 2,515 coronavirus-related deaths to date. There have been a total of 9,326 hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

VDH reported Wednesday that 49,132 COVID-19 tests have been taken in Arlington, with a 5.4 percent positivity rate. Statewide there have been 1,623,408 COVID-19 tests taken, with a 6.6 percent positivity rate, according to VDH.

There have been 19 coronavirus outbreaks in the Arlington Health District as of Wednesday, with 564 cases related to an outbreak. There have been 14 outbreaks at long-term care facilities, two outbreaks at a congregate setting and three outbreaks in health care settings in Arlington. There have been 196 reported coronavirus cases in Arlington involving health care workers.

Globally, more than 23.9 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 820,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Wednesday morning. In the United States, more than 5.7 million people have been infected and over 178,000 people have died from COVID-19.

Arlington residents should take the following actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
