Hurricane Irma: DC's 4 Worst Tropical Storms In The 21st Century
Hurricane Irma is currently churning down in the Caribbean as a massive category 5 hurricane, threatening to strike Florida very soon. And although its track is uncertain, it's possible it could suddenly veer north and head toward the D.C. area. Patch looks at the four worst tropical storms that struck the D.C. region in the 21st century, and how they affected our area.
Washington Monument's $11M Repair Bill, Contractor Chosen
A Rockville contractor has been selected to overhaul the crumbling Washington Monument, which has been closed to the public for the past year as officials battled continuing problems with its elevator, federal officials said. The National Park Service has awarded a $10.78 million contract to Grunley Construction Co. to replace the monument's elevator and build a permanent visitor screening center by 2019.

Charlottesville's Second Confederate Statue To Be Removed
Charlottesville City Council has voted to remove the second Confederate statue displayed in a park. The Daily Progress in Charlottesville reports that the city council vote to remove the Confederate Gen. Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson statue was unanimous Tuesday night.
Giant Named Anchor Store At ‘Scout On The Circle’ In Fairfax
Another Giant supermarket apparently is coming to town, and this one would be the anchor store in the proposed development "Scout on the Circle," by Combined Properties on Fairfax Circle, according to both the developer and the city.
‘At Home’ Grand Opening This Weekend In Fredericksburg
At Home, the popular Texas-based home décor chain store, will have a double grand opening of sorts this weekend when it ceremoniously swings opens its already-open doors at its new store in the Spotsylvania Crossing Shopping Center, 3655 Plank Road.
