Residents Evacuated from Apartment Building Due to Structural Damage
Some residents spent the night at Belle View Elementary School.
FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- Residents of an apartment building on Wakefield Drive were evacuated Sunday after structural damage was discovered, according to Fairfax County Fire & Rescue.
The building, located at 6600 Wakefield Dr. (see map below), was evacuated Sunday due to structural damage, authorities said. Police briefed residents at Belle View Elementary Sunday at 5:30 p.m. and some residents spent the night there. Red Cross provided dinner for residents. Police officers and firefighters escorted some residents inside to get any necessities.
The Red Cross tells WTOP that 180 residents were evacuated. Most residents were allowed to return to the building but others spent the night at the school while the structural problems were being investigated. No word on what caused the damage.
