As Herman Cain Suspends Campaign, He Leaves Behind Support in Virginia
State supporters donated $40,685 to Cain campaign

When presidential candidate Herman Cain suspended his campaign Saturday, he left behind some supporters in Virginia.
The Kingstowne area as of Sept. 30 has donated more than $10,000 to GOP presidential contenders and more than $13,000 to help re-elect President Obama (the list does not include donations to former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty who has dropped out). Just $750 went to Cain.
In all, Virginia supporters donated $40,685 to help elect Cain, a man who has never held public office but started the Godfather Pizza chain and then headed up the National Restaurant Association in D.C.

The Cain campaign raised more than $5 million nationally, $5,340,967 in all.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney still tops the GOP presidential contender list in individual donations from Virginia, with $894,838 from supporters in the state, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

The amounts are the latest reported as of Sept. 30, before Newt Gingrich's recent surge. (Gingrich now leads in the Iowa Poll, released Saturday night.)
As of Sept. 30, Gingrich's Virginia donations stood at just $87,525. Although Gingrich lives in McLean, he is not involved in Virginia politics. A former speaker of the House from Georgia, he has since created a lucrative business.
Although Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell has made appearances and been discussed as a possible running mate with both Romney and Texas Gov. Rick Perry, there's been little discussion of a Gingrich-McDonnell match-up, although the Richmond Times Dispatch muses on it today.
