Fairfax County Man Charged In Attempted Highway Murder

Maryland State Police believe the Fairfax County man shot at a woman driving home from work.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD—What started as an apparent road rage incident escalated into an attempted highway shooting last week in Prince George's County, Md. Maryland State Police have arrested and charged a Fairfax County man in the incident.

Around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22, police responded to the alleged shooting on Pennsylvania Avenue (Route 4) between Suitland Parkway and Woodyard Road.

A woman was driving home from work when she observed a blue Chrysler Sebring tailgating her in the left lane. She moved into the right lane when traffic cleared, and she told police the car passed her aggressively.

The suspect pulled out a handgun while passing her car, and eventually got behind her car again. The victim observed the suspect continuing to point the gun and heard gunfire hit her car. The car, which contained two men, got off on an exit in Upper Marlboro, Md.

After the victim called police, Maryland State Police found the man had open arrest warrants. Police arrested Jonathan Paul Boykin, 30, of Groveton at his home and found several illegal firearms and ammunition. He is charged with first and second degree attempted murder, first and second degree assault, use of a firearm in the commission of a crime, and reckless endangerment. He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and faces charges in both Maryland and Virginia.
