FAIRFAX, VA — Fairfax County Public Schools students bade farewell to summer as they headed back to school on Monday, Aug. 26.

It's the third year in a row Fairfax County Public Schools started before Labor Day. Due to new state legislation, the school district adjusted the calendar to give students a day off on Friday, Aug. 30 for a longer Labor Day holiday. Students also have off on Virginia's general election day (Tuesday, Nov. 5).

Fairfax County Public Schools remains the largest district in Virginia and the 10th largest in the U.S. Its 198 schools and centers serve more than 188,000 students.
