Shootings In Rose Hill, Gum Springs Prompt Community Meetings

Police will share updates on investigations into the shootings, which may be gang-related.

ROSE HILL, VA—Fairfax County Police will hold community meetings after a series of shootings in the Rose Hill and Gum Springs areas on July 1 and 4.

The meetings will be held Saturday, July 6 at 12:30 p.m. at Highland Park Pool (6400 Highland Drive), Tuesday, July 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Gum Springs Community Center (8100 Fordson Road) and Thursday, July 11, at 6 p.m. at Rose Hill Elementary School (6301 Rose Hill Drive).

"We understand community concern after several people were shot this week in the Gum Springs and Rose Hill areas," stated Fairfax County Police on social media. "We will be attending community meetings in the coming days to address concerns and share details about our investigations."

The shootings happened within the last week and may be tied to gang activity. Two of the shootings occurred in the 3000 block of Fordson Court in Gum Springs, a neighborhood in Hybla Valley. On Monday, July 1, two teens were shot at a playground. The second involved a man being grazed by a bullet on Thursday, July 4.

Two other shootings injured three people in and around Rose Hill on July 1. Police initially responded to the 6400 block of Telegraph Road, where people in two cars exchanged gunfire outside the Midi East music studio. A man with a gunshot wound was found and taken to a hospital.

Minutes later, officers were called to the 2700 block of James Drive and found two men with gunshot wounds. One of the vehicles remained on scene, and the other vehicle was later found unoccupied.

All people who were shot had non-life-threatening injuries. Police have not announced any arrests.
