On-Time Graduation Data Released: How Edison High School Did
Reports from the Virginia Department of Education show the school's on-time graduation rates compared to the district and state.
KINGSTOWNE, VA — Edison High School outperforms the school district and state for on-time graduation rates, according to data released by the Virginia Department of Education Tuesday.
The school's on-time graduation rate for the 2018-2019 school year was 93.5 percent, a 2 percent improvement from the year prior. By comparison, Fairfax County Public Schools overall had a 91.3 percent on-time graduation rate and Virginia had 91.5 percent.
The school also outperformed the school district and state among some subgroups of students. Among students with disabilities, 95.1 percent graduated on time, compared to 92.1 percent in the district and 88.5 percent in Virginia. Economically disadvantaged students had an 94.2 percent on-time graduation rate, while the district had 86.4 percent and Virginia had 87.2 percent.

Disparities exist for English language learners, who make up nearly a quarter of students. However, the 79.2 percent of English language learners graduating on time outpaced the district's 67.7 percent and state's 71.1 percent.
Among black and Hispanic students, 98.2 percent and 85.3 percent graduated on time, respectively, and both percentages were above the district and state averages. Among white students, 99.3 percent graduated on time, and 96.7 percent of Asian students graduated on time.

Edison High School had 491 students enrolled in 12th grade during the last school year. The student population is 34.2 percent Hispanic, 25 percent white, 20.9 percent black, 14 percent Asian, 5.1 percent with mixed races, 0.4 percent American Indian and 0.3 percent Native Hawaiian. At Edison, 40.1 percent of students are economically disadvantaged, 24.6 percent are English language learners and 16.1 percent have disabilities.
The Edison High School class of 2019 had 49.7 percent with advanced diplomas, 43.8 percent with standard or other diplomas, 1.4 percent with GEDs or certificates and other non-graduates, and 5.1 percent of students who dropped out.
