1. Lynchburg parent calls for action on SOL test scores (wdbj7.com) — Lynchburg parents are pressing city leaders to respond quickly to low SOL test scores, especially for Black students in Lynchburg City Schools. With local pass rates trailing state averages in every subject, officials say they're reviewing data now and will share detailed results and improvement plans after the state releases full accountability information in October.
   

2. Sidewalk to nowhere? Amherst County eyes future sidewalk extension (wset.com) — If you've walked or biked from Lynchburg across the John Lynch Bridge, you've probably noticed the new pedestrian path suddenly ending in Amherst County. Local officials there are exploring grants and long-term plans to extend the walkway to Riveredge Park, link it with the James River Heritage Trail, and eventually create a larger loop connecting Lynchburg, Amherst, and possibly Campbell County.
   

3. Hoops for All! Spotlighting the Medford Basketball League (wset.com) — In Lynchburg, adaptive basketball players from Heritage and Laurel Regional are packing the gym weekly as they compete in the Medford Basketball League through November. With support from University of Lynchburg athletes, participants are sharpening fundamentals, proudly representing their schools, and building friendships, while college players say the experience is just as inspiring for them.
   

4. Griffith Statement on Action to Protect SNAP Benefits (pcpatriot.com) — Lynchburg officials recently reported that more than $60,000 in local SNAP benefits were stolen from EBT cards, leaving affected residents unable to replace their lost food assistance. In response, Rep. Morgan Griffith is backing federal legislation to crack down on SNAP fraud and allow states to reimburse victims whose benefits are stolen through no fault of their own.
