Police: Fifth Homicide Suspect Arrested in September Shooting

The final suspect in Gainesville murder investigation arrested by U.S. Marshals in Sterling.

The final suspect in a fatal shooting in Gainesville last month was arrested Tuesday in Sterling, according to Prince William County Police.

Alvin Burnett Jones, 32, of the 8600 block of Sumter Court in Manassas Park, was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals at a home in Sterling.

Jones is charged with murder, aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Officers responded to a call regarding shots fired at 1:50 a.m. Sept. 12 in the area of of Old Linton Hall Rd and Charis Avenue.

Claude Lee Jackson III, 23, of Gainesville, was found at the scene suffering from a gunshot wounds. He was transported to an area hospital, where he died.

The four other suspects were taken into custody within days of the shooting, but

A second victim found at the scene, age 22 of Bristow, was critically injured, according to police. The third victim, aged 24 of Manassas, walked into a area hospital with a graze wound on his hand.

Investigators say the shootings occurred following a fight at a nearby shopping center and it was connected to an argument between the men a week earlier in Chantilly.
