Photos: Mount Vernon Celebrates National Night Out

Mount Vernon neighborhoods celebrated National Night Out on Tuesday night with barbeques and pool parties.

Officer Mark Pollard, PFC, has visited National Night Out celebrations in Mount Vernon for the last six years. Pollard and his Fairfax County Police Department partner, Mike Byrnes, PFC, visited six National Night Out gatherings Tuesday night, including the Engleside neighborhood.

"This was the first stop tonight," Pollard told Patch. "We're very pleased to meet the residents. They've been very gracious."

Engleside Community Association president Karen Pohorylo said the community has been hosting National Night Out for about two decades.

"This neighborhood is great," said Pohorylo. "We have a lot of new people coming in and really participating."
