• VDOT breaks ground in Norfolk on another HOV lane (wvtf.org) — Norfolk drivers face several years of nighttime and weekend construction as VDOT converts the I-64 shoulder between the I-264 interchange and Tidewater Drive into a new seven-mile express lane and upgrades bridges. The $400 million project, funded partly by a federal loan, is expected to open in 2029 and will expand the Hampton Roads express lane network while keeping carpools and buses free.
   

• Tidal flooding in Norfolk causes road and school closures (wavy.com) — Tidal flooding is forcing Norfolk Public Schools to close Thursday and making several key roads, including parts of Hampton Boulevard and Virginia Beach Boulevard, potentially impassable at high tide. City officials urge residents to avoid driving through high water, move vehicles to city garages if surrounded by flooding, and use navigation apps to track rapidly changing conditions in low-lying neighborhoods.
   

• Coastal flood days increasing due to climate change (13newsnow.com) — Norfolk is now seeing more than 15 coastal flood days a year at Sewell's Point, with over half linked to human-driven sea level rise. Researchers warn that even routine high tides increasingly flood low-lying roads, and that local flooding frequency could rise sharply over the next few decades as sea levels continue to climb.
