Oceanfront Dairy Queen to close next year for new police substation (wtkr.com) — Virginia Beach plans to close the longtime Dairy Queen at 17th Street and the Boardwalk in 2027 to build a new police substation at the Oceanfront. City leaders say shifting police operations to this high-traffic spot should boost visibility and safety while preserving the surrounding open space park that many residents and visitors enjoy.

2. Wrong-way drunk driver in deadly crash sentenced to 15 years in prison: CAO (wtkr.com) — A Virginia Beach man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for driving drunk the wrong way on London Bridge Road and killing another motorist, Steven A. White II. Prosecutors say his blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit, and the violent head-on crash crushed White's car and left another passenger seriously injured.

Taste Test: The best bagels in Hampton Roads (pilotonline.com) — Bagel lovers in Virginia Beach will recognize two local favorites in a regional taste test, where Baker's Crust Bagel locations on Laskin Road and Princess Anne Road took top honors. The Bagel Baker on Great Neck Road also placed, as testers compared plain bagels on aroma, texture, flavor, and value to crown Hampton Roads' best bites.

4. Lynnhaven River NOW and BoatUS Foundation remove 75 abandoned boats from Virginia Waterways (13newsnow.com) — From a base in Virginia Beach, Lynnhaven River NOW and the BoatUS Foundation have already removed 75 abandoned boats from Virginia's coastal waterways and plan to continue through mid-2027. The groups are also releasing a video and survey to involve boaters and marine businesses in preventing future derelict vessels that can pollute and damage local habitats.
