Brookhaven Town Issues Fraud Alert

Supervisor Ed Romaine warns Patchogue residents of letter falsely claiming to be from the Town Assessor's office.

Brookhaven Supervisor Ed Romaine is warning residents about a scam by individuals looking to pose as Town workers to illegally enter private homes.

Town officials were alerted on Friday of a letter sent to residents falsely claiming that employees from the Town Assessor’s office would be inspecting their property on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015 between the hours of 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. as part of ”reassessments for the upcoming tax year.”

No such reassessment or inspection is taking place in Brookhaven Town, town officials said.
