Picture Connecticut: We All Vote In A Yellow ... VW

A very vintage vehicle brightened up Election Day in Connecticut.

EAST GRANBY, CT — For those out in East Granby on Election Day, this was hard to miss.

An intrepid election correspondent spotted a canary (or maybe psychedelic) yellow Volkswagen Microbus, puttering along through the intersection of Route 187 and Route 20. It appeared to be an early 1970s model.

At first thought, when it was new, the VW might have been occupied by someone heading to the polls to actually cast a ballot for George McGovern. But a closer inspection of the vehicle showed that it had a "fuel injection" label riveted on the back. Thus, it could be not as old, because the injectors were introduced as standard equipment for the buses in 1975, three years after McGovern received his approximate half-dozen votes in town, according to several online references.

What's a VW Microbus without a set of curtains in the rear window? This one not only had the spicy brown mustard-colored drapes, but they appeared to have been pilfered from en earlier VW model that actually went to Woodstock.
