Bradenton Woman Charged in Tampa Wrong-Way Incident

She was pulled over early Monday morning.

A Bradenton woman is behind bars in Tampa after she was spotted driving the wrong way on Interstate 275 Monday morning.

According to the Tampa Police Department, the incident unfolded around 2 a.m. when a motorist saw the woman driving northbound in the southbound lanes near Himes Avenue.

Road construction crews and Road Rangers were able to stop the woman before a crash occurred, an email to media from the police department stated.

Once the car was pulled over, however, police discovered the woman inside didn’t want to cooperate. She refused to submit breath or urine samples and would not say what entrance she used to access the Interstate.

Cornelia Johnson, 64, of River Trace Circle in Bradenton was being held on $5,500 bond at the Hillsborough County Jail Monday. She faces DUI, refusal to submit to testing, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and introduction of contraband into a detention facility charges.

Eleven people have been killed on Bay area roads due to wrong-way driving crashes this year. The incident related to Johnson was just one of three reported over the weekend.
