Floridian Dr István Dobozi Strikes at Trump Again in Magyar Article
From 1992 for two decades until retirement 'István Dobozi was chief economist of the World Bank in Washington, D.C.' is he Right or Wrong?

There are a multitude of possible motivations for someone to publicly dispute or attempt to prove a public figure such as former and future President Donald J. Trump (R) wrong . They may include, but are not limited to, sincere disagreement, a desire to attract attention by leftists by attacking Trump, plans for some future role in the leftist orbit, and more. Some possible motivations are valid, some would be self-serving. That said, the purposes here is not to claim to know what the motivation(s) of István Dobozi, Ph.D., might be. Having met and chatted with Dr. Dobozi multiple times at the Plant City (FL) Magyar Club, he's been a pleasant fellow in person with me. My motivation in the following is simple. Despite his credentials, which are indeed impressive, it is my fact- and evidence-based view that Dobozi is badly mistaken. I've offered to debate topics similar to the following with István publicly in writing so people can see his response to my concerns, and he's politely declined. If Dobozi is right, the country and world are in trouble. If he's wrong for any reason, then the U.S.A. and the world are better off having Trump and J.D. Vance in office than they were having Joe Biden-Kamala Harris (D) or while President Barack Obama (D) and his VP Joe Biden (D) were in office.
Before sharing Dr. Dobozi's plug for his live meeting he says will take place:
on Thursday, January 23, 2025, starting at 4:00 PM at the Selby Library ( 1331 1st St, Sarasota, FL 34236)
let's share two graphics that are domestic economics focused. One is from left-leaning CNN, a longtime Trump critic, and the other is from right-leaning Fox Business, a more Trump friendly news outlet.

What both of those graphics, from the normally anti-Trump left and the more pro-Trump right, demonstrate is that the working and middle class fared better under Trump than either under George W. Bush (R) and Obama-Biden (D). Note that the CNN graphic, adjusted for inflation, made it clear that Trump's domestic economic performance was better than the Clinton-Gore (D) economy as shown above too.
Part of the domestic policy was obviously influence by Trump's trade policy. Trump is pro-tariff. Even though Biden (D) and Harris (D) during the 2024 campaign attacked Trump on both his domestic and trade policies, the fact remains that the Trump tariffs against Communist China were left in place. Oops. That, for an objective thinking woman or man should lead one to question those who are attacking Trump's proven performance.

With that preface, let's pivot to what Mr. Dobozi said in the Google translation of his remarks in Hungarian. But for fairness and for the sake of international readers who are looking for his remarks in the original Magyar (Hungarian) language will be provided in Part II following the translation his statements in English in Part I.
Part III will provide additional information on both the domestic and foreign policy fronts regarding Dobozi's thesis and this writer's intellectual and evidence-based disagreements with them.
Part I - In an email to Magyars and Magyar Speakers from Dobozi István on Saturday, January 11, 2025 is the following.
Invitation Dr. István Dobozi's roundtable meeting. We will be holding a discussion with Dr. István Dobozi, former Chief Economist of the World Bank, on Thursday, January 23, 2025, starting at 4:00 PM at the Selby Library ( 1331 1st St, Sarasota, FL 34236) . The topic of the discussion will be:
DONALD TRUMP'S EXPECTED WORLD POLICY, INCLUDING HUNGARIAN-AMERICAN RELATIONS
On January 20, President-elect Donald Trump will move into the White House while the world is in great disarray. Two hot, destructive wars are taking place simultaneously, in Ukraine and the Middle East. Trump promised to end them quickly during his election campaign. Can he succeed? What solutions are conceivable? Can Vladimir Putin be forced to the negotiating table, while the flag is increasingly in his favor on the main battlefield? China has become the most dangerous strategic adversary of the USA economically and geopolitically. Could the two superpowers drift into war over Taiwan in the next four years? Could Trump's aggressive tariff plan against China and the rest of the world spark a global tariff war? Hungarian-American political relations have fallen to a historic low during the Biden administration. Can the good old days in bilateral relations return under Trump's presidency, or are there elements of Hungarian foreign policy that will also unsettle the Trump administration?
Dr. István Dobozi was born in Tóalmás, which elected him an honorary citizen in 2007. He received his doctorate in international economics from the Budapest University of Economics and has taught as an associate professor. He received the academic degree of Candidate of Economic Sciences. For a time, he was deputy director of the World Economic Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Between 1984 and 1992, he taught and researched in the United States at Arizona State University and the Colorado School of Mines. From 1992 to two decades -- until his retirement -- he was the chief economist of the World Bank in Washington. He is an internationally renowned expert. He is the author of numerous books and studies, and a regular guest on Hungarian radio and television channels. His opinion articles and commentaries are published in leading Hungarian publications and prestigious American and European newspapers, including the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, Die Presse, the Economist, and the Washington Post. He also frequently writes opinion articles in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. We look forward to seeing everyone!
Part II - per the original in the email from Dobozi István was the following in Magyar (Hungarian). Following this will be a post on a Magyar site translated by Google in Part III and the original in Hungarian in Part IV. Some added facts and analysis by this writer will follow in Part V.
Meghívó
Dr. Dobozi István kerekasztal találkozójára.
2025. január 23-án, csütörtökön délután 4:00 órai kezdéssel a Selby Könyvtárban (1331 1st St, Sarasota, FL 34236) tartjuk Dr. Dobozi Istvánnal, a Világbank volt vezető közgazdászával. A beszélgetés tárgya:
DONALD TRUMP VÁRHATÓ VILÁGPOLITIKÁJA, KÖZTE A MAGYAR-AMERIKAI KAPCSOLATOK
Január 20-án Donald Trump megválasztott elnök úgy költözik be a Fehér Házba, hogy a világban nagyfokú rendezetlenség van. Párhuzamosan két forró, pusztító háború is zajlik, Ukrajnában és a Közel-Keleten. Trump ezek gyors lezárását ígérte a választási kampányban. Sikerülhet-e ez neki? Milyen megoldások képzelhetők el? Tárgyalóasztalhoz kényszeríthető-e Vlagyimir Putyin, miközben a fő harctéren mindinkább neki áll a zászló? A magyar-amerikai politikai kapcsolatok történelmi mélypontra zuhantak a Biden-kormány idejében.
Elnyerte a közgazdaságtudományok kandidátusa akadémiai tudományos fokozatát. Gyakran ír véleménycikkeket a sarasotai Herald-Tribuneban is.
Sok szeretettel várunk mindenkit!
Part III From a Google translated emailed and posted on a Magyar site (linked here) was the following.
Istvan Dobozi wrote (date: 2025. Jan. 10., Fri 15:11):
"The president-elect feels that he has been given a strong mandate not only in domestic policy, but also in foreign policy. Trump fundamentally approaches the world from a business perspective. But beyond that, what principles and goals frame his world policy? Why does he believe more in the power of bilateral personal diplomacy than in multilateral forums and summits? What has changed in the world between Trump 1.0 and Trump 2.0? Will President Trump drag the world into a global tariff war with his aggressive tariff focus?"
Part IV From that Magyar site (linked here) by Dobozi was the following.
Dobozi István
A Trump-doktrína
Az America First extrém változata jön?
PUBLICISZTIKA - LXIX. évfolyam, 2. szám, 2025. január 10.
A megválasztott elnök úgy érzi, hogy erős mandátumot kapott nemcsak a belpolitikában, hanem a külpolitikában is. Trump alapvetően üzleti oldalról viszonyul a világhoz.
Part V - Additional Information with More Facts, Analysis, and Commentary
1) Stating the obvious can be clarifying. Neither Dobozi nor this writer knows the future. We are each making presumptions based on a range of facts and motivations. Time will either prove Dobozi to be correct or will tend to show that this writer has the facts on this topic about Trump and his policies.
2) That said, 'past is prologue.' One of the best indicators of future behavior is past behavior. That is why employers want a resume and if they are prudent, they check references to see how a potential employee performed before. That is why historians exist, and while Dobozi is doubtlessly has superior credentials as an economist to this writer, this writer is keen on carefully examining evidence which is usually historic which is an arena that this writer has earned several awards during my academic years.

3) Some added quotes on history and its relevance to this topic, per Bing's AI powered Copilot, are as follows.
- "History is a gallery of pictures in which there are few originals and many copies." - Alexis de Tocqueville
- "History is not a burden on the memory but an illumination of the soul." - John Dalberg-Acton
- "History is a cyclic poem written by time upon the memories of man." - Percy Bysshe Shelley
- "History is a pack of lies we play on the dead." - Voltaire
AZ Quotes provides some added ones.
- That men do not learn very much from the lessons of history is the most important of all the lessons of history. - Aldous Huxley
- The history of the world is none other than the progress of the consciousness of freedom. Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel
4) History is studied by thinking souls precisely because for those who grasp its value it is nearly invaluable. I studied history formally since 6th grade into my collegiate years, and have studied history informally during my entire adult life. I use history in my articles as a common feature, even if I don't call it 'history.'
5) That said, the articles below dealt with much the same items Dobozi has raised. He declined to address them, after being directly invited to do so. That's his right, which I respect. But it also means that those fact-packed theses remain unrefuted.

https://patch.com/florida/lake...

Those who dig into those two linked articles may see why Dobozi declined even trying to respond to the evidence that I provided to Patch readers. It is simple. Dobozi is mistaken. The evidence is that Trump's policies worked before and barring the unforeseen should work again.
Additionally, it is a matter of common sense that if (for example) Russia invaded Ukraine twice - first under Obama-Biden (D) and next under Biden-Harris (D) but didn't while Trump was in office, they must have felt that Trump was a more serious deterrent.
Similarly, Communist China has been very aggressive in threating Taiwan under Biden-Harris. China's leader Xi did not use those same aggressive tactics while Trump 1.0 was in office.
Briefly, then, history tells us that Trump did much better in foreign and domestic policies than either of his predecessors. That is why this writer supported Trump in 2016, 2020, and 2024. His plans were sound. His performance was not perfect, but it was superior.
"Sometimes the perfect is the enemy of the good" is a phrase attributed to the thinker, author, and historian G.K. Chesterton. That is a phrase that is good for us all to keep in mind, especially those who may have TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome). Every Trump supporter I know has made some comment about this or that tweet, remark, or social media post that they wish the former and future president hadn't made. Fair enough. But sometimes the perfect is the enemy of the good. We aren't going to get a perfect president. But we have a good one, far better than any other in the 21st century. Indeed, there is an evidence-based case to be made that Trump is the best president since Ronald Reagan, and we'll let historian debate which was better or worse. As much as I like Reagan's communication methods and disarming ways, in some ways, Trump may be better. And recent polling (watch for this in a planned follow up) suggests that some 70 percent of the country supports his policies.
So, Dobozi, or George and Alex Soros, or any others who may oppose Trump for whatever reasons have the right to their emotional or other responses. But intellectually, for those who love America (and for those who love Hungary too), Trump is the hands down most proven leader. His America First policies doesn't keep other nation's from putting their interests high too. That's the simple brilliance of his 'Trump Doctrine.'
To learn more, see several of the following items or see the entire series, that included several articles on Trump and his rivals in both major parties linked here. Note not all of the following are political or Trump-related subjects.
In closing, I hereby invite István Dobozi, Ph.D., to respond. He has my email address, I have his, I'll send him a link to this, and we can do an online debate if he so desires.
The logical fallacies graphic that follows may be useful for him and others too. Stay tuned for other topics and more on the upcoming Trump 2.0 in the days ahead. Thanks for checking in.
